Over $100,000 in development money and a host of new, internationally-funded pitching programs will be offered in partnership with Canadian, U.K. and U.S. broadcasters at the 28th Banff World Television Festival (BWTVF) this year in Banff, Canada, from June 10-June 13, including a US$10,000 prize sponsored by The N.

Canadian partners who continue to offer financial sponsorship of pitch programs include CTV, and the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund. CTV Inc. is once again sponsoring the CTV Canadian Documart pitch, with $60,000 in development funding to be awarded to the top three documentary pitches, while the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund returns to present iPitch 2007 with a $10,000 development prize. As part of the festival’s all-new Pitch It! program, the best pitch in the Youth Drama category will receive a US$10,000 prize that is sponsored by the New-York based, nighttime network for teens, the N. The winner of the Youth Drama pitch will also receive a $5,000 motion picture film product grant as the prize for this year’s Audience Choice Award, which is provided by returning sponsor Kodak Canada Inc. UKTV Style, one of multi-channel provider UKTV’s 10 channels, will sponsor the £5,000 cash development prize for the best pitch in the Pitch It! Lifestyle category, and the best pitch in the Comedy category will receive a $10,000 prize that is sponsored by CTV Inc.’s Comedy Network in Canada. For the first time, the U.S. network fox 21 is also offering a development deal, for the winner of its reality pitch.

In addition, selected pitch finalists will have the opportunity to turn their concepts into productions when they pitch their ideas to commissioning editors before a live audience in a career-making moment.

“Banff is excited that so many high-profile broadcasters have come onboard to support our pitch competition,” commented Jennifer Harkness, BWTVF’s director of content.

ITV and Endemol?

C21media about some roumors in the format industry:

UK broadcaster ITV is declining to comment on speculation that it is considering a bid for Big Brother producer Endemol. According to UK press reports, ITV is preparing to make an offer for Endemol as its owner, Telefonica, prepares to invite closed bids for the production giant. It is thought that Endemol has been a long-term strategic target for ITV. Endemol senior management are said to be well aware of ITV's interest. However, an ITV spokesman refuted the claims today. "We do not comment on speculation and that is all it is," he insisted. Endemol's founder John de Mol, Endemol France head Stephane Courbit and private equity group Apax are also expected to make bids for the producer. It is thought that bidding could begin as early as next week, when Endemol is expected to hold an EGM.

DISCOP 07

Paris, 24 January. 2007 will be one of the most eventful year ever for Central & Eastern Europe’s booming television industry as most countries are pushing hard on the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting while at the same time many of them are already embracing IPTV.

As a result, close to 650 national, regional, thematic TV stations, VOD, Telco operators and DVD distributors from Central & Eastern Europe are expected to send about 1000 programming, acquisitions, production and distribution executives to Budapest for the 15th edition of the annual 3-day DISCOP content market which will take place from 20 to 22 June at the SOFITEL ATRIUM HOTEL in Budapest.

To better welcome an expected 25% increase in attendance over 2006, the market will be held during 3 weekdays (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) instead of 2 weekdays plus a Saturday as in the past.

With still 5 months to go before DISCOP 07, all exhibits have already been sold out to 173 international TV content sales organizations, the vast majority of them being DISCOP veteran companies eager to pre-organize their meetings with the +/- 700 already confirmed Central & Eastern European TV content BUYERS.

Many additional non-exhibiting sales organizations are still expected to register while an increased number of national pavilions will also be at DISCOP 07 representing France, Italy, Spain, Korea and Israel.
